Seven Steps to Successful Student Finance

A friend of mine has returned to Uni and asked me what ways he can make money to supplement his student loan. Now students are expected to spend an average £9,250 a year on the cost of living so anything will help reduce the need to work during term time.

Here are my Seven Steps to Successful Student Finance!

1) Make money searching the web

At uni you’re going to be doing a lot of research. In the old days this was at the library sifting through dusty old books! Now we use Google.

What if every time you used Google you earnt money? Well Google do that as they have ads in the search results but they keep all the money (Google forecasted earnings for 2012 are about $35 billion!)

There are a number of search engines who share their revenue with their users. Inboxpounds pays £0.01 per two searches (up to £0.15 per day) whilst Swagbucks gives you points randomly as you search (I have earnt over £60 of Amazon vouchers recently). Both are great ways to earn whilst doing something you needed/ wanted to do and would have done anyway!

2) Receive emails and get rewarded

Whilst your on the t’internet you might as well check your emails. We all get spam and unwanted adverts in our emails but what if you got paid for them.

I get regular emails from Inboxpounds and for each one I get 1 pence, not much I now but I’ve got over £5 owed to me now and it’s for very little effort. If you want less effort then Mailpay is for you! The advert is sent direct to your inbox and you don’t have to click through to the website. Plus some of the adverts are actually worth getting!

A bit more spammy but with a lot more emails is donkeymails. Much more American with lots of internet marketers but you don’t have to read the messages!

3) Sell cds, computer games and dvds

I’m not a big fan of making money by selling things as there’s only so many things you can sell before you have an empty house! However music tastes change and as your at Uni you’ll move around a bit so you want to travel light. Remembermy Dad being squashed into the back of the car a few times during my moves!

Whilst you won’t make the most money selling to Musicmagpie it is the easiest and quickest way. Type in the number from the barcode on the back of your case and they make an offer. If it’s over £2 then I would suggest you try selling on Amazon, but if it’s less Musicmagpie probably works out cheaper when you take p&p into account.

Try Musicmagpie to see how much you could earn!

4) Make money with your mobile

At Uni be get used to waiting. Meeting a friend in town? Late because of last nights gig! Doing a field trip? Tutor discussing the sedimentary rock formations with a group of passing Japanese tourists! It happened to me!

Now when I was at Uni, mobile phones were the size of bricks but now smartphones enable you to make money! Quidco a leading cashback website offer a mobile app which allows you to earn from going to shops. Just take your phone with you!

You can make a couple of quid a day just from going round shops, you can even make money by not going into the shops as the GPS tracking isn’t quite good enough to detect if you are stood outside or not.

For more info see my post on Quidco phone app

5) Play games and earn

Not only can you get paid to read emails with Inboxpounds but you can also earn cash for playing your favourite games.

You can practice playing your favorite games at no cost.

6) Make money clicking your mouse

I’m a member of the exclusive club Superpoints. To join the club you must have an invite. Superpoints works on a number of levels.

1) get points for clicking a button on their website. This button then randomly gives you points I regularly get £3 per week from these points!

2) Get your friends to join and for the first 1000 points they get you get as well

3) Superpoints sends you emails with points awarded to them (this one is a no effort bonus)

7) Get paid for writing on forums

I like money making opportunities that give you money for things you already do! Like swagbucks where you get paid for searching, Postloop allows you to get paid for posting comments on blogs and forums. Find a blog or forum that you are interested in and post comments and you get paid for doing so!

You also get more money if the posts get more replies so get your Uni friends to join you on a forum and you can get paid for discussing your social life! If it’s something you’re really interested in it doesn’t feel like work! I joined a sports discussion forum and earnt 11 dollars in a night after getting into an argument about John Terry!
