Student money – part II

Having wrote about ways in which students can make money (here) I’ve had quite a few messages from students wanting further information. So I’ve done their work for them and searched the web for answers. (Ways to make money whilst searching the web – click here)

Student tax
Whilst students are not exempt from tax just for being students if anyone earns under the tax threshold you don’t have to pay tax. Ehtan’s Money has a detailed post on this so rather than me just rewriting what he said here’s the link http://www.ethansmoney.com/form-p38s/

Saving Money

There are many ways for students to save money. One of the best money savers (forget about Martin Lewis) is Miss Thrifty. Her well designed website offers some great advice! In this post she specifies how she saved money at Uni http://www.miss-thrifty.co.uk/2012/10/05/my-five-top-money-saving-tips-for-students/ I urge you to do the same!

I hope these two links offer some answers to those who have messaged me. Happy money making!

ps.  For students with mobiles you can earn money going shopping with the Quidco check in app see here for more details

Seven Steps to Successful Student Finance

A friend of mine has returned to Uni and asked me what ways he can make money to supplement his student loan. Now students are expected to spend an average £9,250 a year on the cost of living so anything will help reduce the need to work during term time.

Here are my Seven Steps to Successful Student Finance!

1) Make money searching the web

At uni you’re going to be doing a lot of research. In the old days this was at the library sifting through dusty old books! Now we use Google.

What if every time you used Google you earnt money? Well Google do that as they have ads in the search results but they keep all the money (Google forecasted earnings for 2012 are about $35 billion!)

There are a number of search engines who share their revenue with their users. Inboxpounds pays £0.01 per two searches (up to £0.15 per day) whilst Swagbucks gives you points randomly as you search (I have earnt over £60 of Amazon vouchers recently). Both are great ways to earn whilst doing something you needed/ wanted to do and would have done anyway!

Click here for more info on Swagbucks

2) Receive emails and get rewarded

Whilst your on the t’internet you might as well check your emails. We all get spam and unwanted adverts in our emails but what if you got paid for them.

I get regular emails from Inboxpounds and for each one I get 1 pence, not much I now but I’ve got over £5 owed to me now and it’s for very little effort. If you want less effort then Mailpay is for you! The advert is sent direct to your inbox and you don’t have to click through to the website. Plus some of the adverts are actually worth getting!

A bit more spammy but with a lot more emails is donkeymails. Much more American with lots of internet marketers but you don’t have to read the messages!

3) Sell cds, computer games and dvds

I’m not a big fan of making money by selling things as there’s only so many things you can sell before you have an empty house! However music tastes change and as your at Uni you’ll move around a bit so you want to travel light. Remembermy Dad being squashed into the back of the car a few times during my moves!

Whilst you won’t make the most money selling to Musicmagpie it is the easiest and quickest way. Type in the number from the barcode on the back of your case and they make an offer. If it’s over £2 then I would suggest you try selling on Amazon, but if it’s less Musicmagpie probably works out cheaper when you take p&p into account.

Try Musicmagpie to see how much you could earn!

4) Make money with your mobile

At Uni be get used to waiting. Meeting a friend in town? Late because of last nights gig! Doing a field trip? Tutor discussing the sedimentary rock formations with a group of passing Japanese tourists! It happened to me!

Now when I was at Uni, mobile phones were the size of bricks but now smartphones enable you to make money! Quidco a leading cashback website offer a mobile app which allows you to earn from going to shops. Just take your phone with you!

You can make a couple of quid a day just from going round shops, you can even make money by not going into the shops as the GPS tracking isn’t quite good enough to detect if you are stood outside or not.

For more info see my post on Quidco phone app

5) Play games and earn

Not only can you get paid to read emails with Inboxpounds but you can also earn cash for playing your favourite games.

You can practice playing your favorite games at no cost.
Begin playing Tournament Games and receive cash back in your InboxPounds account!

Join Inboxpounds today to earn while you play.

6) Make money clicking your mouse

I’m a member of the exclusive club Superpoints. To join the club you must have an invite. Superpoints works on a number of levels.

1) get points for clicking a button on their website. This button then randomly gives you points I regularly get £3 per week from these points!

2) Get your friends to join and for the first 1000 points they get you get as well

3) Superpoints sends you emails with points awarded to them (this one is a no effort bonus)

For a special invite to this exclusive club and find out more about superpoints click here

7) Get paid for writing on forums

I like money making opportunities that give you money for things you already do! Like swagbucks where you get paid for searching, Postloop allows you to get paid for posting comments on blogs and forums. Find a blog or forum that you are interested in and post comments and you get paid for doing so!

You also get more money if the posts get more replies so get your Uni friends to join you on a forum and you can get paid for discussing your social life! If it’s something you’re really interested in it doesn’t feel like work! I joined a sports discussion forum and earnt 11 dollars in a night after getting into an argument about John Terry!

Enjoy your Uni life you’re a long time out of it!

Quidco App – make money from you mobile phone in the UK

i love Quidco Blue

Have you ever wanted to make money whilst shopping?

What about those endless times where your stood nervously loitering around the women’s changing rooms waiting for your partner (but feeling a little seedy)!

The Quidco mobile app may just be your saviour!

Quidco is a cashback site where you can buy things on line and get money back. However the Quidco mobile app provides an opportunity to make and save money in other ways.

Make money from your mobile phone

The key point for me! The app provides what Quidco call a “check-in” function. This allows you to earn money by visiting shops. The mobile is able to track where you are and you can register that you are there!

However the software is not that accurate so you can be outside the shop and still get the money. A friend of mine was waiting at a coffee shop in a shopping centre (I don’t like the word mall – too American!). Whilst waiting in the coffee shop he was able to check in to a number of shops and get £2.30 of check-ins just sat there drinking a latte.

The app allows you to check-in ever 5 minutes or so, thus it is important to be selective in your choice of check-ins. Start at the highest priced one in your area and work down. Once you have got £1.01 in your account you can ask for payment. The good thing about the app is that earnings from check-ins do not count towards Quidco’s £5 yearly fee (they only take this fee if you have earnt over £5).

How to use the Check-in function on the Quidco mobile app

Open the app and click “myquidco” then “find check-in deals” and the closest deals will appear.

The app can be used on Iphones, Ipads and Android based systems.

Once you have checked in to a store you may not be able to check in to that store or others of that chain for a few weeks.

Some of the retailers to use this feature on Quidco are Sainsbury’s, Boots, Body Shop and Homebase. Mobile Phone shops tend to be highest.

How to get the Quidco mobile app

Click on the link and sign up to Quidco (it’s free – Quidco are the UK’s number one cashback and vouchers site)

Go to ways to save and click on the mobile app. Then download the app. Easy as that!

Whilst it won’t make you rich, you can earn money whilst your waiting around the shops!

Forgotton Bonus – alright I admit it I made notes for this post and have just noticed I missed an important part. Quidco offers a bonus increase in the check-in amount if you connect the app with your facebook or twitter account. Now this could annoy your friends but I know of people who have set up facebook accounts just for this purpose! You could use the account for Jokeroo as well! See my post on Jokeroo – making money with facebook

How to make money from receiving emails!

Would you like to earn money every time you opened your email inbox? I have found four great sites that pay you to receive emails. These sites all vary in the amount of effort required and won’t make you rich, but the effort required is worth the pay!

Mailpay

What is a get paid to receive emails site?

Its actually what it says! You sign up to a site and provide them with an email address. They then send emails to the email address. The emails can be adverts or links to another site. Some sites pay you just for sending the email to you, whilst others require you to click on the link.

How much will I get paid?

The sites pay from fractions of a pence to over 3 pence per email. OK its not a lot but some of the sites allow you to sign up friends and you get paid when they receive emails.

Site 1) Mailpay

If you’ve got lots of friends who will join you on Mailpay then you could be on to a winner!

Mailpay pays you 25% of the fee they charge advertisers to email you. I have earnt between 0.5p and 3p per email. However the best way to make money is to refer other people. I have 6 “buddies” and have earnt from them earning money. The site advertises that one man earnt £300 from one advertising campaign that went to all his buddies.

Mailpay is very easy to use and you can fill in surveys to get emails sent to you that match your interests. I have had emails from big names such as BT, Sainsbury’s and BHS.

The only negatives from Mailpay is the lack of emails and the high payout figure of £20. However there is no effort once set up other than reading the emails. You do not have to click on any links so the time used on this is minimal! Great starter email service.

Click on the link to sign up: Mailpay sign up link

Site 2) Inboxpounds

Inboxpounds pays a £1 sign up bonus so you get off to a great start. The emails are regular and you get 1p per email. Inboxpounds do have other ways of making money such as signing up to things and surfing the web so the payout at £20 should not deter you from signing up.

When you receive an email you have to click on a link to confirm you have read the email and the advertised website pops up in another window. A little more work than Mailpay but pays on the whole more per email.

Click on the banner to sign up!

Site 3) Donkeymails

Donkeymails pays 0.25cents per email. They send you an email containing several links. The key link to look out for is the one under the title paid ad. Click on the link and a new window pops up stating that you can not close the window for 15 seconds, which is fine as you should have another tab open and do other things whilst you wait!

The ads are very much web based advertising (ie how to get rich on the web type adverts) although amazon does come up from time to time. Donkeymails do send quite a few emails every day and have no payout limit so you can get paid frequently!
DonkeyMails.com: No Minimum Payout
Click on the banner to sign up!

Site 4) Superpoints

Superpoints is more than a “get paid to receive emails” site, as you can read here, however they do send emails giving you points which you can then click on to receive. Superpoints is an exclusive members only site where you can build up a network of your friends all earning points for each other.

You can join superpoints by clicking on my special invite:           Special Invite link

Superpoints is one of several get paid to sites that I use but it is one of my favourites, and I know for a fact that you can earn at least £3 a week by using the site because I do so nearly every week .

A get paid to site is one that pays you for doing things. Superpoints pays you for  doing surveys, videos, tasks, clicking the button, recruiting friends, competitions on facebook, and other things.

The SuperLucky button is the main thing that will earn you points. This is a screen which says click here! Once clicked it tells you if you have won any points – a bit like spin the wheel in the Wheel of Fortune. That’s it! All you have to do is click the button.

Superpoints has 4 levels of membership or status as they call it – You are aiming to get to Plantinum status to get the higher member rewards.

Member status: None

You have created an account. Get your invite to Superpoints by clicking here: INVITE!

This status gives you 5 clicks on the SuperLucky button per day.

Member status: Basic

You have to have activated your membership by clicking the link in the email they send you and you need to complete your basic information. The basic info is your gender, marital status and month/year of birth.

This status gives you 30 clicks on the SuperLucky button per day.

Memberstatus: Gold

You need to invite people to join and have 2 people reach the Basic level. You get 25 points for each person when they reach basic level. You also need to add a photo and complete your advanced profile.

To get people to sign up you have to send your special link. You can find your “special link” by clicking on the following.

Friends > Invite > Special Link

Get your invite to Superpoints by clicking here: INVITE!

To complete your advanced profile click on the following

Settings > Account Information > Advanced profile

Adding a profile photo is easy

Settings > Profile > Add Picture

This level gives you 50 clicks on the SuperLucky button per day and when your friends win points on the button, you win what they win!

You get points when your friends take surveys

Member status: Platinum

The holy grail of statuses. This level gives you 100 clicks on the SuperLucky button per day and when your friends win points on the button, you win what they win!

You get 1 superpoint every day just for clicking the SuperLucky button.

You become High Priority for when survey emails are sent out and you get points when your friends take surveys

You need to invite people to join and have 5 people reach the Basic level.

Get your invite to Superpoints by clicking here: INVITE!

Other way to earn points

Check your emails, they send out a lucky points email every day which does contain points for you

Watch (aka click play and do something else!) videos by clicking on
Get points > Watch Videos .. there’s normally 3 or 4 videos on this link to watch daily

The easiest way to earn points is by becoming a platinum member and have friends who are active on the website, the more friends you sign up, the more points you earn for doing nothing

Other things to note

The Superpoints day goes from 8am (uk) to 8am (uk)

The Superpoints website has downtime every day from approx 9am (uk) to 9-20am (uk)

What to swap your points for:

If you have a paypal account it may be best to get the cash rather than an amazon voucher as detailed below:

1000 points = $10 paypal = £6.19 depending on exchange rate
1000 points = £5 amazon
Other rewards are available

You are best to ask for redemptions on a saturday which will be paid on the monday/tuesday/wednesday the following week …. asking on a sunday means you will have to wait till the following week to be paid

Superpoints is open to members in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
Strictly one account per household.
You must also be at least 18 years of age to play on the site.

Get your invite to Superpoints by clicking here: INVITE!

PS:             Load the swagbucks toolbar onto your computer and type in superpoints in the search term. Then everyday when you want to click on your SuperLucky button load the site via swagbucks for the chance to earn even more money. Join swagbucks by following this link!
